Claude Monet (1840-1926) was one of the most prolific impressionist painters and a key member of the French art scene. Impressionism, a philosophy based on expressing one's personal perceptions of nature and landscapes, brought together artists like Monet and Berthe Morisot in friendship and mutual admiration.

As a young artist Monet loved travelling, often by train, and documenting the French countryside. After spotting the picturesque village of Giverny during one such trip, he decided to move there and plant his own garden so he could paint en plein air. The landscaping project, which included building a Japanese-style footbridge over lily ponds created by a rerouted stream, became the ultimate source of inspiration for his paintings.

Over the following years, Monet painted more than 250 canvases inspired by the play of light and colour as the sunlight danced upon the lily pond. The artwork that adorns our cover sets a letter written in 1888 by Monet to Morisot against one of these famous oil paintings.

If the version with lined pages is out of stock then unlined will be provided instead (and vice versa).
